What can an excavating contractor do with a mini excavator?

A mini excavator handles digging and trenching on a smaller scale than big earthmoving machines. It also pulls the small stumps and roots left in the ground after clearing. Then land grading with the track loader can smooth the ground over.

Ditch lines fill in with dirt and brush over time. The excavator digs them back out and cleans up the bank edges beside them. Rain then has a clear path again.

A track loader cannot reach some steep banks and slopes. The mini excavator gets there with a mulching head on its arm. The head grinds the brush and saplings into mulch that stays on the ground. Along a creek bank, the work follows Georgia's stream buffer rules.

Georgia 811 and power lines before excavation starts

Georgia's dig law counts machine digging, ditching, grading and trenching as excavating. That work generally needs a Georgia 811 ticket first. Georgia 811 asks for the ticket at least three business days before digging. Utility owners then have at least two full business days to mark their lines.

Private lines stay unmarked. Those include the water line from the meter to your house and power run out to a barn. A private utility locator can mark them. Point them out to us before work starts as well.

Overhead power lines have their own Georgia law. Work that may bring a machine within 10 feet of a high-voltage line needs notice first. That notice goes to Georgia 811 at least 72 hours ahead. Weekends and holidays do not count.

Storm cleanup after wind and ice storms in Northeast Georgia

When Hurricane Helene came through in 2024, the National Weather Service reported trees and power lines down across Stephens County. Most of the county's damage came from them. The same report listed trees and power lines down across Habersham County and Rabun County.

Ice storms leave the same kind of mess. The weather service warns that heavy ice can bring down trees. Limbs and brush then block drives, ditch lines and farm roads.

Our storm cleanup opens blocked drives and ditch lines back up. The mulching head grinds downed limbs and brush into mulch, and the mulch stays on the ground. Large downed trees are a job for a tree service. Once a drive is clear, our gravel driveway repair fixes the ruts and washouts the storm left.

How We Work

How a Job With Wall Land Solutions Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

1

Call or Text

Call or text (678) 776-8002 and tell us where the land is. Say what has grown up on it and what you want done.

2

We Look at the Property

We set a time to come out and see how thick the growth is and how the machines get in. Georgia 811 does not mark private lines, so show us any line to a barn or a well.

3

Your Estimate in Writing

You get a free estimate in writing that lists the work and the trees that stay. The job starts when you say go.

4

The Clearing

The track loader and the mini excavator go to work with their mulcher heads. Brush, briars, vines and small trees are ground down where they stand.

5

Mulch Left in Place

The mulch stays on the ground as a cover over the soil. You are left with open land you can see across and use.

FAQ

Excavation Questions, Answered

Common questions about excavation around Toccoa and the Northeast Georgia foothills. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (678) 776-8002

How much does excavation work cost?
The price depends on the job. The amount of digging or ditch line matters, along with the slope and how easy the spot is to reach. Rock and roots in the ground add time. We look at the job and put a free quote in writing.
Can you dig a foundation or a septic system before I build?
No. Foundations, basements and septic systems belong to other trades, along with utility installs and building demolition. Our excavation work is mini excavator work on your land. Large earthmoving calls for a contractor with bigger machines.
Can you pull out stumps?
Small stumps and roots, yes. The mini excavator digs them out of the ground. Large stumps are a job for a stump grinding company. We tell you which ones the excavator can pull when we look at the job.
Can you clean out a ditch along my driveway?
Yes. A filled-in ditch beside a drive sends rain across the gravel instead of away from it. The mini excavator digs the ditch line back out. Ditching counts as excavating under Georgia's dig law, so a Georgia 811 ticket comes first.
Can you work on a steep slope or a creek bank?
Steep slopes, often yes, and we look at the slope during the estimate. A creek bank depends on Georgia's erosion rules. They set a buffer of 25 or 50 feet along the banks of many streams and limit clearing inside it. Your county or city office answers what applies to your creek, or Georgia EPD in some counties.
Do you work in my area?
We work about 60 miles around Toccoa, across Northeast Georgia. That takes in Stephens County and the counties around it, including Habersham County and Hart County. See the towns we serve, or call or text (678) 776-8002 with your location.
