Underbrushing clears the brush that grows up under mature trees. Privet, briars, saplings and vines like wisteria get mulched down, and the big trees stay standing. The woods open up, and you can see and walk through them again.
We run a mulching head on our track loader and on our mini excavator. Both machines grind the brush into mulch where it stands. Underbrushing is part of our land clearing around Toccoa and across Northeast Georgia. Call or text (678) 776-8002 for a free estimate.
Tell us what needs clearing and where the property is. We look at the job and give you a free estimate in writing.
Underbrushing takes out the growth under the tree canopy. That means privet and briars, along with the saplings and vines mixed in. The mature trees and their canopy stay standing, and we clear around each one.
The work runs on the same mulching head as our forestry mulching. The mulch stays on the ground as a layer under the trees. Over time, it breaks down into the soil. You are left with open woods instead of brush piles.
Taking down a large tree is work for a tree service. Grinding out stumps is work for a stump grinding company. Underbrushing takes care of the brush and saplings below the big trees.
The Georgia Forestry Commission says Chinese privet is widespread and common throughout Georgia. This thick shrub can grow up to 30 feet tall. It often forms dense thickets in the forest understory. It shades out many native plants, and once it takes hold, it is very hard to remove.
Underbrushing grinds those privet thickets into mulch, briars and all. The mature trees above them stay, and you can see into the woods again. Privet spreads by sprouts and by seed that birds carry, so plan on some regrowth.
The same state guide says kudzu is widespread across Georgia. It favors open, disturbed ground like forest edges and old fields, and it can smother trees. Where kudzu has climbed into the edge of the woods, our kudzu removal work mulches it down.
On a wooded home lot, brush can grow right up to the edge of the yard. UGA Cooperative Extension says ticks survive best in high grass and brushy areas. Extension agents also say brush makes a home for snakes and the rodents they eat.
Their advice is to keep the space around the house clear. Underbrushing cuts the brush back from the yard, and the shade trees you want stay. The shade under those trees turns into space you can use. If you plan to build in the woods, site preparation clears the building spot and keeps the trees you choose.
Woodlots and hunting land open up the same way, so you can see and move through the woods. On a hunting tract, we also clear food plots and trails. Realtors and landowners use underbrushing before wooded land goes on the market. Buyers can then see the trees and the lay of the land.

You get a free estimate in writing that lists the work and the trees that stay. The job starts when you say go.
The track loader and the mini excavator go to work with their mulcher heads. Brush, briars, vines and small trees are ground down where they stand.
The mulch stays on the ground as a cover over the soil. You are left with open land you can see across and use.
