Food plots and trails start with open ground. We clear and mulch food plots on hunting land, and we cut trails and access lanes through woods and brush. A forestry mulcher head grinds brush, briars, vines and saplings into mulch where they stand. Everything we cut stays on the ground as a mulch layer.
Hunters and landowners call us when a plot has grown over or a trail has closed in. Food plot clearing is one part of our land clearing in Northeast Georgia, about 60 miles around Toccoa. Call or text (678) 776-8002 for a free estimate.
Tell us what needs clearing and where the property is. We look at the job and give you a free estimate in writing.
Hunting land in Stephens, Habersham and Rabun counties runs from foothill ridges to steep mountain ground. In Georgia, archery deer season opens in mid-September and firearms season in mid-October. For most hunters the season closes in January, the Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division says.
A new plot needs time between the clearing and the seed. UGA Cooperative Extension says to test the soil well ahead of planting. Its soil test guide says lime reacts slowly, so mix it in 2 to 3 months before planting. One county Extension office puts the ideal soil pH for most food plot crops at 6.5.
So count back from your planting date. The clearing comes first, and the soil test and the lime follow. For a plot you plan to plant in the fall, clearing in spring or early summer leaves time for both. Your county Extension office can help with planting dates for your crop.
Food plot clearing runs on the same machines as our forestry mulching work. Our track loader clears a plot with its forestry mulcher head. It grinds brush and saplings down and leaves the mulch spread on the ground. Our mini excavator runs a mulching head too, and it reaches banks and slopes the track loader cannot.
Some plots start as brushy ground or an old field. Others are old plots that briars, privet and saplings have taken back. We mulch a grown-over plot back to open ground, out to its old edges.
Big trees and their stumps are work for a tree service and a stump grinding company. If large trees stand where you want the plot, plan for that work before we mulch.
Trails and access lanes let you reach your plots and hunting spots through thick brush. Trail clearing with the mulcher cuts the brush and saplings down along the line you choose. You can mark that line with flagging tape before we start. The mulch stays on the trail, and the big trees stay standing beside it.
Old trails and lanes close in fast in Northeast Georgia. Privet, briars, sweetgum and pine saplings take over open ground. We mulch a grown-over lane back to its old width so you can use it again.
If the woods between your trails are thick, underbrushing clears the undergrowth under the big trees. A lane that has to carry trucks may call for a driveway cut and gravel.

(678) 776-8002From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.
Call or text (678) 776-8002 and tell us where the land is. Say what has grown up on it and what you want done.
We set a time to come out and see how thick the growth is and how the machines get in. Georgia 811 does not mark private lines, so show us any line to a barn or a well.
You get a free estimate in writing that lists the work and the trees that stay. The job starts when you say go.
The track loader and the mini excavator go to work with their mulcher heads. Brush, briars, vines and small trees are ground down where they stand.
The mulch stays on the ground as a cover over the soil. You are left with open land you can see across and use.
